Keynote Speaker:

Tiko Iyamu is Professor of Information Technology at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa. His areas of focus include enterprise architecture, health informatics, big data analytics, and mobile computing. Professor Iyamu has authored nine books, which include Applying Theories for Information Systems Research; Enterprise Architecture for Strategic Management of Modern IT Solutions; The Concept of Enterprise Architecture from Theory to Practice; and Advancing Big Data Analytics for Healthcare Service Delivery. He has edited five books and authored more than one hundred and ninety peer-reviewed research articles in a wide range of Journal outlets, Conference Proceedings, and book chapters. Iyamu is affiliated with the Research Councils on two continents, focusing on health informatics. He is an associate editor of the Journal: Education and Information Technologies (EAIT); The African Journal of Information Systems (AJIS), and a pioneer Associate Editor of the International Journal of Actor-Network Theory and Technological Innovation (IJANTTI). Nationally and internationally, Iyamu has received several awards in research and excellence in the supervision of postgraduate students.


Speakers:

Prof. Julia Bauder, MLIS, is the social studies and data services librarian at the Grinnell College Libraries and is currently serving as the director of Grinnell College’s Data Analysis and Social Inquiry Lab (DASIL). She is the author of The Reference Guide to Data Sources (2014) and the editor of the books Data Literacy in Academic Libraries: Teaching Critical Thinking with Numbers (2021) and Teaching Research Data Management (2022), all published by ALA Editions. She has also published and presented about information literacy, data literacy, and data visualization in venues including Information Technology and Libraries, College & Undergraduate Libraries, and the LITA National Forum. She holds a BA from Bard College at Simon’s Rock (Great Barrington, Mass., USA) and an MLIS from Wayne State University (Detroit, Mich., USA).


Prof Anna J.F. (Hanlie) Dippenaar is Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Education in Wellington, Cape Peninsula University of Technology. She started her career as a teacher at Potchefstroom Gimnasium, whereafter she joined Vista University as a lecturer in the Faculty of Education. She was a lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the University of Pretoria since 2004 and joined the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in 2012. She is a Teaching Advancement at Universities (TAU) Fellow, and a member of the TAU OPSCOM and Curriculum Development working group. She holds a PhD in language teaching from Northwest University and a PGCHE from University of Pretoria. She works with the WCED, schools and institutions in the Wellington area as part of the professional development of pre-service teachers of English.


Dr. Kirstin Krauss has extensive experience in leading research capacity building initiatives and coordinating research projects, and more recently, business development for a scholarly services company. He is a leading authority and subject matter expert in the field of Artificial Intelligence and academic writing, with a combined 25+ years of extensive experience making a notable impact in business, education and research, and substantial networking experience within the Southern African higher education sector. Kirstin holds a PhD in Informatics, from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, focusing on ICT for Development and Critical Ethnography, while his entire career consistently focussed on ensuring that ethical standards and integrity are observed as the foundation to research relevance and leadership.

Kirstin has taken on several advisory roles in areas related to research capacity building and doctoral programme reviews, research integrity services, education consulting, artificial intelligence, and project coordination. He is a part-time Research Advisor at Worldwide Information Services (WWIS), where he facilitates Research Capacity Development workshops and consulting for the WWIS Academy. In prior roles as a Professor at UNISA (2017-2022) and Associate Professor at Rhodes University (2012-2016), he focused predominantly on postgraduate student development and supervision capacity building in the Information Systems discipline. His research focuses mainly on ICT for Development, Critical Ethnography, Higher Education, Artificial Intelligence and scholarly writing, and mitigating questionable scholarly practices.

Kirstin has been invited and acknowledged by several associations and universities to deliver guest lectures and keynotes. These include the University of Cape Town, the University of the Free State, Ghana Technology University College, Central University of Technology (Free State), Milpark Education, North-West University in South Africa, University of Pretoria, Rhodes University, University of the Witwatersrand, STADIO Higher Education, Uganda Martyrs University in Kampala, Academic Conferences International, an International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) conference, Digi-Face (digiface.org) and the Southern African Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (AISSAC). Kirstin serves on the advisory board for the South African National Library and Information Consortium (SANLiC)/Wiley Author Engagement Programme. He is a member of the Association of Information Systems (AIS) and the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research (SIETAR) Europa – Special Interest Group on Africa. He also served as Education Chair for the AIS Special Interest Group on Global Development (2015-2017).


Mathew Moyo holds a Masters as well as Doctoral degree in Information Science, in addition to graduate qualifications in Knowledge and Information Systems Management and Leadership. His experience in academia spans more than 25 years. He has worked in various management as well as academic and research roles. Apart from his current role of Chief Director, Mathew is affiliated to the Social Transformation Research Area where he continues to make a contribution as a researcher. His work interests are in the areas of Governance and Leadership, Mentorship, Capacity Building, Teamwork, and Strategy, among others. His research interests are in the areas of Information Literacy, Information Behaviour, Research Data Literacy, Knowledge and Information Systems Management, among others. In his current role as a Chief Director, Mathew is affiliated to a number of professional organisations and boards, including serving as the General Chair of the International Conference on Information Literacy (ICIL-Africa), which is a sister conference to the European Conference on Information Literacy (ECIL). He has presented papers at national and international conferences and appreciates collaborating with colleagues in similar research interests and area of expertise on both national and international levels.


Dr. Vusi Mshayisa is a distinguished scholar and lecturer at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), where he earned his Doctoral degree in Food Science and Technology in 2021. He holds a National Diploma and BTech in Food Technology (both cum laude) from CPUT, an MTech in Food Science and Technology, and an MSc in Food Technology from Wageningen University in the Netherlands.
RESEARCH EXPERTISE
Dr. Mshayisa is an NRF Y2-rated researcher known for his pioneering work in sustainable food systems, particularly in the utilization of edible insect proteins and the study of Maillard reaction products for food applications. His research interests extend to innovative pedagogical approaches, including blended learning, flipped classrooms, and collaborative learning techniques, which he integrates into his teaching to foster student engagement and enhance learning outcomes. Dr. Mshayisa's dedication to educational technology and curriculum development has made him a leader in both his academic field and in advancing food science education. Dr. Mshayisa has been instrumental in mentoring emerging scholars, promoting interdisciplinary research, and contributing significantly to the academic community through his expertise in both research and innovative teaching practices.


Mr Klaaste-Salmans is Deputy Chief Education Specialist at the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), with the responsibility of Senior Phase Languages. He completed his studies at UCT and was a teacher at Rondebosch Preparatory School for boys for 16 years, where he was Head of Department and Acting Deputy Principal. Mr Klaaste-Salmans works closely with the Faculty of Education, CPUT to prepare future teachers for the reality of the classroom. He offers workshops, in collaboration with his colleagues from the WCED, to first year and final year student teachers. This project has enhanced the professional development of novice teachers entering the profession and has led a strong link between the WCED and Higher Education.
